"The wellness travel industry is booming: in 2019 it was valued at $4.9 trillion with wellness tourism accounting for $720 billion prepandemic, according to the Global Wellness Institute (GWI). It’s also predicted that wellness tourism will quickly emerge from the pandemic with it reaching $1.1 trillion in 2025 per GWI. “We see guests who are exhausted from increased demands at their jobs and at home,” says Kevin Carter, CEO of Hilton Head Health. “There’s just a lot of added pressure and daily stressors. These retreats go beyond the usual spa treatments and focus more on one’s overall well-being with mental and physical health the primary focus. “The past few years have been very stressful for people as they are forced to mix work with home life, are unable to see friends and family as frequently, and are limited to where they can travel,” explains travel expert and enthusiast Finn Cardiff, founder of Beachfix, a website that focuses on beach travel. “This can be very difficult for many people’s well-being, and they are seeking ways to cope and relax.”
